ABOUT AIG AMBA ASUQUO

Assistant Inspector General of Police, Amba Asuquo; a native of Urue Offong/Oruko in Akwa Ibom state, was born on the 31st of March, 1961. He had his primary education in Salvation Army Primary School, Lagos. Afterwards he studied at the Methodist Boys High School, Oron, passing out with grade (1) in the 1987 school certificate sitting. He then worked briefly in the Telephone Billing section of Post and telecommunications (P&T) department, Calabar, Cross River state. Following which he attended the School of Arts and Sciences, Uyo, for his Higher School Certificate. Subsequently proceeding to the University of Lagos, he attained a Bachelor of Arts degree in English/Literary Studies in 1984. Followed by NYSC service in the Oyo state polytechnic, Ibadan where he was briefly retained post service completion.
AIG Amba was enlisted into the Nigerian Police Force as a Cadet ASP in 1986. In the course of duty, he has served in all 6 geopolitical zones of Nigeria, ranging from the FCT, Sokoto, Akwa Ibom, Oyo, Enugu, Imo, Kebbi, Edo, Bayelsa, Ekiti etc. He served as the First Staff Officer Junior in the present State Police Headquarters, Uyo. He notably served as the Divisional Police Officer, Eket Division, where his superlative performance there earned him a chieftaincy title for meritorious service to the Eket community. The career officer has also within a 13 year span served in the Training Department of the Force Headquarters, Abuja, as an Assistant Commissioner, Deputy Commissioner and as a full Commissioner of Police. Deployed as Deputy Commissioner of Police, Anti Bomb Unit; he as well held command postings as Deputy Commissioner of Police, Oyo State, as Commissioner of Police in the Counter Terrorism Unit (CTU), Commissioner of Police – Bayelsa & Ekiti states- all before promotion and present redeployment as the pioneer AIG, Force Criminal Investigation Unit (FCID) for the North East Zone, headquartered in Gombe state. A dedicated patriot, he even anchored the popular Force Reform Program.
Assistant Inspector General Of Police, Amba Asuquo is a God-fearing Christian married to Chief Mrs. Janet Asuquo Amba, the immediate past President General of Oron Union and present SSA to the Akwa Ibom State Governor on SMEs. The union is blessed with 6 children, one of whom is a practicing medical doctor. His hobbies include golfing, farming and reading.
An avid learner, AIG Amba Asuquo has attended every required/promotional course of the Nigerian Police Force, including international courses in Israel, Italy, Chad, Poland and the USA. He served as a member of the United Nations Peace Keeping Force in East Timor and Liberia. He is equally a distinguished member of the International Association of Chief Of Policing (IACP) and a Paul Harris Fellow of the Rotary Club. He also holds Chieftaincy titles in his native Oron, as well as Ekiti state, not to mention his numerous array of awards, amongst which include the ‘Outstanding Personality’ award bestowed by Aare Afe Babalola, founder of ABUAD University, Ekiti.
