Ahead of the 2019 polls, the political leader of Uruan Local Government Area, Chief Ekpe Atakpo has reaffirmed the position of people from the area as regards the reelection of Governor Udom Emmanuel and Senator Bassey Albert for the offices of Governor and Senator (Uyo) respectively.
Atakpo made the declaration during a consultative visit of Akwa Ubok Abasi campaign organization to Uruan to PDP stakeholders and statutory delegates from the area.
The chieftain, was particular about recent political events in the state and country, and harped on the need to ensure political stability in the Uyo Senatorial District and the State at large by returning the duo at the polls.
“For those who have seen the political terrain, we understand how peculiar the situation is in Akwa Ibom and Nigeria at this point. Senator Albert is the only one that has the capacity to defend the Senatorial District at all fronts”.
“I want to let you know that the nine LGAs had earlier endorsed Senator Albert and Governor Udom Emmanuel for a second term at three different occasions. As far as we are concerned in Uruan, we stand by that position and there is no going back, because we are people of integrity”, he added.
Presenting his scorecard, Senator Albert acknowledged the support of Uruan people to his success at the red chamber, and called on the stakeholders to work audaciously to ensure the return of Governor Emmanuel in 2019 as Governor, a feat he described as best bid for Uyo Senatorial District, who are primed to take over leadership of the state in 2023.
The consultative forum was witnessed by political stakeholders from the area, including the council chairman, Hon. Henry Isaiah Udofia, vice chairman, Rt. Hon. Bassey Bassey, Chapter Chairman, Mr Okon Essien, State Woman leader of the PDP, Meme Akpabio, Engr Offiong Akoabio, Engr. J.B. Effiong, Rt. Hon. Tony Akan, Pastor Bassey Isin, Dr Eventus Edem, councilors, chapter and ward executives and others.
