Today marks 365 days (one year) since I was sworn into the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to represent the good people of Akwa Ibom North East (Uyo) Senatorial District. Though it has been a journey full of challenges, but I have every reason to thank God for successfully seeing me through my first legislative year.
One issue, which continues to border me since coming to the Senate, has been the alarming rate of unemployment in the country, particularly as it affects Youths. It is an issue every elected public office holder at all levels of governance should be concerned with. Having a soaring army of unemployed youths idling, without meaningful commitment, is a disaster waiting to happen. On my part, I have been working audaciously towards addressing this challenge. This led to my drawing the attention of government to the issue through a bill I sponsored in the Senate (on 07/10/2015) to analytically express the concerns of unemployed Youths in the country. I have, through my various empowerment programs, made some remarkable efforts to take some of these unemployed youths off the queue and engage them meaningfully.
In my first legislative year, I have been able to sponsor two bills, four motions and one petition on the floor of the Senate. I have also made contributions to other bills and motions on the floor.
