SENATOR ALBERT ON ENDING GAS FLARING

The Chairman Senate Committee on Gas, Albert Bassey Akpan has harped on the need for Nigeria key into the plan by the World Bank to end gas flaring by the year 2030. Senator Akpan gave the advice in Abuja during a meeting with members of the Committee on Gas. He said the Committee is worried about the available data which show that oil and gas companies operating in Nigeria burn over three point five to five billion Dollars yearly from the over two hundred and fifty-seven flow stations in the Niger Delta. Senator Akpan said for a country like Nigeria, the pollution of the environment and waste of resources that gas flaring entails call for urgent action to tackle the problem by government, oil companies and development institutions.
