Senate Albert Bassey supports Senate To Investigate Manitoba/TCN Deal

The Senate is to investigate the circumstances surrounding the preparation, execution and implementation of the management services contract for the Transmission Company of Nigeria.

The Bureau of Public Enterprise (BPE) transferred the management of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) to the Hydro International Nigeria Limited, also called Manitoba.

Lawmaker representing Akwa Ibom North East Federal Constituency and Chairman Senate Committee on Gas, Senator Albert Bassey Akpan and other senators accused Manitoba of refusal to accept Naira as legal tender currency for payments for goods and services in Nigeria, noting that the company was incorporated under and, subject to the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria carrying on business in Nigeria and paid in millions of dollars of scarce public funds.

Senator Albert Bassey is of the opinion that there is need for the senate to uncover illegality in Manitoba contract with TCN.
